Olimba Camp Overview

Operating season: 1 May – 10 Nov
4 chalets
Minimum age 8 years

Remote Africa Safaris’ latest camp addition, Olimba, is located on the northern boundary of the Nsefu Sector. The camp has been named after the legendary leopard, Olimba, a beautiful feline that has been the star of many a documentary and guest safari. The site was previously used as an exclusive film camp for an ambitious nature documentary, created over several years. Iconic resident animals captured in the documentary may be seen on game viewing activities from this camp.

Olimba is tucked beneath expansive ebony trees with a spectacular view of the Luangwa river and a wildlife rich lagoon just a few hundred metres to the east of camp. Four chalets built from a combination of canvas, screed and thatch (including king and twin configuration flexibility) can accommodate up to 8 guests. For those looking for a more private safari experience, the camp may be booked out exclusively for groups of 6. The chalets are extremely comfortable with running water, solar power and ensuite facilities with an indoor and outdoor shower option open to the stars and views of the bush.

The food is excellent and is supplemented by a wonderful supply of fresh salad, fruit and vegetables from the Remote Africa Safaris’ vegetable garden.

From the camp guests can enjoy day and night game drives in a prime wilderness area. A private Kawere hide and seasonal carmine bee-eater hide also offer great armchair game viewing up close. Cultural visits to nearby Mkasanga Village are on offer where the school is supported by Remote Africa Safaris’ Tafika Fund in the form of books, educational materials, teachers’ salaries and pupils’ scholarships. Guests are always welcomed at Mkasanga with great enthusiasm and plenty of smiles and the church choir delights in the opportunity to serenade visitors with the harmonies of Africa.

Our game drive vehicles allow for unobstructed viewing and enable all guests on board to share in the knowledge and insights of the guide. With up to 470 species of birds, bird enthusiasts as well as the mammal lovers will become captivated by the array of feathered residents. The Luangwa is known as the Valley of the Leopard, so expect to see several of these spotted cats as well as lion, elephant, Thornicroft’s giraffe (now considered a sub species of Masai giraffe and often referred to as Luangwa giraffe), herds of buffalo in their hundreds and African wild dog.

With the abundance of diverse game populations, low vehicle traffic in the pristine Nsefu sector of the South Luangwa and some of the most experienced safari guides in the Luangwa, Olimba Camp offers guests an unforgettable African safari.
